I loved the TMB and wished I could have completed it...we had an ambitious itinerary that my avid hiking legs were not quite well enough trained for.

The train ride from the Pension En Plein Air to Chamonix was stunning so I am thankful for the way our trip turned out.

Here was our itinerary with my comments:

We went July1, 2014
We pre-booked accommodations

Pre-TMB: Overnight Chamonix - hostel: Mountain Highs Chamonix - private room - nice but not convenient for the start of the trail.

TMB

day 1: Les Houches to Les Contamines (14km)

- stayed at Le Pontet - didn’t care for the accomm but closest to the starting point for the next tough but stunningly scenic day.

day 2 - Les Contamines - Les Chapieux (17km)

- stayed at Auberge de La Nova - nice place, social spot

day 3 - Les Chapieux - Courmayer (29km)

Stayed at a nice hotel

day 4 - Rest day

Nice hotel

day 5 - Courmayer - Alpage La Peulaz (25km)

- stayed at Gite de la Peule - could have stayed in a barn at that point, and would have been happy but the Gite was nice

day 6 - La Peulaz - Champex ( 19km)

Stayed at Pension En Plein Air - in a town - just OK, social

From here we took a train with stunning views to Chamonix

day 7 - Champex - Refuge la Flegere (33km)

Didn’t do this part… next time

day 8 - Refuge la Flegere - Le Brevent (7km)

Didn’t do this part… next time

TMB is in my top 5 backpacking trips, up there with the West Coast Trail in Canada.
